When its July/August-type hot, you can always escape the heat by heading to nearby Caledonia State Park. Within 15 minutes of Penn National, you are under a canopy of trees and next to a refreshing little stream...but did you know that if you go another 5-10 minutes further on Rt.233 (Pine Grove Rd.), you can get to the 150-acre Long Pine Run Resevior? To get your bearings, you can click on the map to the right to make it larger--that's Penn National in the lower left and Long Pine Run Dam in the upper right. 
The reservoir is absolutely gorgeous to look at and even better if you can be on it in a kayak or canoe. Did you know that this beautiful lake is the water supply for Chambersburg?
