Attend the Burning of Chambersburg..this Weekend!

Memorial Square, Chambersburg

The "Burning of Chambersburg" set for Friday and Saturday (April 15/16) is expected to be a monumental display of history brought to life by re-enactors, historians and horses among historic buildings downtown.

Chambersburg has the distinction of being the only town burned by Confederate troops north of the Mason-Dixon line, on July 30, 1864. For 30 minutes Saturday, residents and visitors will get an idea of what happened that dreadful day.

The weekend event is part of the Gettysburg Civil War sesquicentennial kickoff, which is being observed in both Franklin and Adams counties. The multi-county events observe the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, which started with the April 12, 1861 bombardment of Fort Sumter in South Carolina.
