A wonderful project is about to blossom in Waynesboro - Destination ARTS!

Destination ARTS! is an exciting, innovative “installation” and festival that turns empty storefronts on Main St. into galleries of fine art and venues for performances for 12 weeks. It is an initiative of the new Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro (AAGW). The goal is to promote the arts, our town and vacant properties to a large regional audience by making Waynesboro an arts destination. This is Andrew Sussman's brain child and many wonderful community people and artists have jumped in and are working hard at getting this up and running. The Opening is July 19 and it will run for at least 12 weeks.

There are many  and varied ways you can help make this visionary project a reality. We’d like to talk to you about opportunities to be a part of it

Elena Kehoe is coordinating volunteers. We need help getting the galleries ready, setting up shows, people to assemble and move supplies and equipment, help with programs and events, publicity and marketing, website skill, fundraising   and  of course a small army to be  our gallery volunteers during open hours.

Gallery hours will be Fridays 5-8, Saturdays 11-6, Sundays 12-4.

Each gallery space will have teams of 6 volunteers to cover weekend shifts and a “docent captain" who facilitates the team and relates to the coordinator and the rest of the committee structure. Teams of six will split these hours. We will have training and preparation for all team members. Those wonderful people who step forward early will get together in the next week with Elena to begin orientation and gather the rest of the teams. One site will be opened as a pilot, so if we have six dedicated people we can see how it works before the full complement of volunteers come on board. Those who are interested in being gallery  volunteers please let Elena Kehoe know your availability weekends in July, August, and September as soon as possible. We understand all have vacation plans to work around.

We look forward to hearing from all of you and sharing the creative juice of this ambitious art project. Please tell your friends and family about this wonderful festival and send along volunteers.
